The catchy ‘’Naatu Naatu’’ item song from the 2022 Indian Telugu language action-drama movie RRR won the award for best original song at the 2023 Golden Globes awards ceremony. This marks the first Gloden Globe winning for India.
RRR became the third Indian film and the first Telugu film to receive nominations at the Golden Globes, including Best Foreign Language Film, won Best Original Song for “Naatu Naatu’’. Soundtrack composer M.M. Keeravani, and singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava accepted the award.
The film’s director Rajamouli, Composer Keeravani and the film’s leads Ram Charan and NTR Jr were present at the awards ceremony.
The other nominations were Taylor Swift’s “Carolina” from “Where the Crawdads Sing,” Lady Gaga and BloodPop’s “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick,” and Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
The song was shot at the Mariinskyi Palace, Kyiv, which is ceremonial residential palace of President of Ukraine and the choreography is performed by the actors N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan and the music video went viral.
RRR is the most expensive Indian film to up to date and it is a huge box office success.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the win a very special accomplishment and added “This prestigious honour has made every Indian very proud”. Prime minister also congratulated the RRR movie team for their historic win.
Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Grammy winner A.R Rahman called the win incredible and also a Paradigm shift.
Many Indian superstars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth also congratulated the winners.
